When the superstar forward asked to leave Brooklyn, there were rumors that the Golden State Warriors were interested in making a trade for him. However, in the end, the Phoenix Suns made the bold move and got the two-time Finals MVP.
Although the 2014 MVP finally signed with a Pacific Division foe, a trade to Golden State would have sent Durant back to the only team he has ever been able to win a championship with. However, has the door completely closed on a return to the Warriors?
Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report built a trade that would return Durant to the team he won back-to-back championships with, and he outlined one potential trade for each team that could win the first overall pick in a recent piece.
In Buckley’s trade, Durant joins the Warriors, while the Suns receive two first-round selections (including No. 1), Andrew Wiggins, Jonathan Kuminga, and Moses Moody from the Warriors. Naturally, this transaction is already speculative, and it gets even more improbable in light of the slim chance that Golden State will win the lottery.
Although there’s a chance the Warriors will inquire about Durant’s availability this summer, it appears the Suns have no intention of parting ways with their standout player anytime soon. However, it would be amazing to witness a reunion.
