Shannon Sharpe, a former NFL tight end, addressed his internet battle with NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal on the Webby Awards red carpet on Monday, May 13.
Sharpe and O’Neal had a verbal spat earlier in May over the former center’s pick for NBA MVP. After Denver Nuggets star Nikola Jokic was named MVP for the third time in four years, O’Neal publicly disagreed, telling the Joker that Oklahoma City’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander was a more deserved candidate.
Sharpe turned to The Nightcap podcast to call O’Neal’s reaction a symptom of envy, citing Jokic’s third MVP award, when the TNT pundit had only one in his long career. The Hall of Famer responded with a lengthy Instagram post, labeling Sharpe ‘far beneath me’ and his show a ‘bulls*** podcast.’
When asked about the back-and-forth, the three-time Super Bowl winner claimed he was ready to put the feud behind him.
‘I mean, I don’t have any issues with Shaq,’ Sharpe told People. ‘He said what he said, and I’m ready to go on.You’ve seen me speak glowingly. I’ve stated Travis Kelce, [Rob Gronkowski], and Antonio Gates were all better tight ends than I was. I’m fine, I have no problem.
‘Do you know why I have no trouble giving folks credit? Because I used my God-given abilities to the fullest.
Before Sharpe acknowledged to calling it quits on the feud, O’Neal appeared to try to calm things down by uploading a tape of the ex-tight end’s podcast statements and saying, “wait til I get up from my nap and here my last response on this.” This is so much fun, have we just become best buddies @shannonsharpe84 #stepbrothers?
