The Phoenix Suns are in the thick of NBA trade rumors right now, with speculation that Kevin Durant might be looking to play elsewhere.
Granted, Durant hasn’t directly contributed any of this.
With recent remarks on a podcast, former NFL receiver Chad Ochocinco Johnson put out the fires on the rumors, claiming that Durant had discussed joining the Miami Heat with him.
“What makes you think he’d want to go to Miami now?” Johnson was questioned by Shannon Sharpe on the Nightcap podcast.
Johnson said, “Because I talked to him.” “KD can swear to the fact that he will see this, as I know from our conversation. We can discuss that on First Take tomorrow. I talked for a long time with KD. Let me tell you something: even though I’m not a big basketball fan, players I know, like LeBron and KD, confide in me. And I inquired about whether it would be acceptable to discuss it tonight on Nightcap, and sure enough, it comes up.
“And he said he would have no problem coming down to Miami, if it made sense.”
Kevin Durant trade rumors are rife following Johnson’s remarks on the Miami Heat. Before Johnson’s remarks, trade rumors about Kevin Durant were already making the rounds, but following his remarks, the Heat and other clubs found themselves the target of trade talk.
Fansided suggested a three-team trade involving the Heat, Spurs, and Suns that would have sent Jimmy Butler, Durant, and two first-round picks to Phoenix in exchange for Durant.
“The Suns acquire a proven winner in Jimmy Butler and two first-round draft picks to make further moves,” Tyler Watts said. To plan their offense, they ought to focus on a point guard and a defensive anchor. Phoenix might become a direct threat as a result of this transaction, particularly if they manage their draft capital well.”
Fansided also kept making predictions about Durant joining the Golden State Warriors.
In exchange for Durant, Phoenix had sent Moses Moody, Andrew Wiggins, Jonathan Kuminga, Gary Payton II, Brandin Podziemski, two first-round picks, two first-round pick swaps, and two second-round picks to Golden State.
“As for Phoenix, this is not a bad trade if the Suns,” Lior Lampert noted. Devin Booker and Bradley Beal provide you with five players who are ready to contribute right away, along with the tools to make the necessary adjustments. You may retool and rebuild your team around them. But this roster’s ceiling sharply drops, so convincing the former to agree to trade Durant for a multi-year roster revamp would be a very difficult undertaking. Furthermore, the franchise receives little to no financial relief from this agreement. Thus, why not keep allocating that cash to a tried-and-true asset and enduring All-Star?”
Exchange Kevin Durant? We questioned major NBA reporters about ways to improve the Phoenix Suns.
Zach Lowe of ESPN mentioned the Knicks as a potential destination for Durant.
In a recent installment of “The Lowe Post” podcast, Lowe clarified, “The most obvious one is Durant for some portion of the Villanova Knicks and draft equity.” “I need to see how I perform in the playoffs if I’m the Knicks. The Villanova Knicks are kind of my thing. My supporters adore the Knicks from Villanova. 36 is Kevin Durant’s age. Alright, I’m not sure I want to do it.”
Naturally, speculation about Durant joining the Los Angeles Lakers would not exist during trade rumors season.
In exchange for Durant, Phoenix received three first-round draft picks, Rui Hachimura, Gabe Vincent, Austin Reaves, and Jarred Vanderbilt from Lake Show Life.
“Could the Phoenix Suns find a better offer from another team?,” wrote Josh Cornelissen. Maybe, but Kevin Durant doesn’t want to play for a club that isn’t prepared to compete, and it’s improbable that those teams would be willing to pay a premium for a player who would turn 36 before the start of the next campaign. Since that LeBron and Durant will probably be retired by the time the later two picks become available, the first-round selections are also quite valuable.”
Isaiah Thomas of the Phoenix Suns: A “missing piece” at point guard versus the Minnesota Timberwolves
Even the San Antonio Spurs were mentioned as a possible trade partner for Durant by the Suns; according to Air Alamo, San Antonio would have to transfer Durant to Phoenix along with two first-round selections, Devonte Graham, Zach Collins, and Keldon Johnson.
According to Cal Durrett, “The Spurs could potentially trade Durant for Devonte Graham, Zach Collins, Keldon Johnson, Chicago’s 2025 first, and Charlotte’s 2025 first (which would become two seconds if it doesn’t convey).” That would be an intriguing partnership for the Suns and the Spurs. The Suns have little options for improvement following their first-round sweep, despite having traded away the majority of their assets to bolster their lineup. That could make it more likely that they would grant KD’s desire for a trade. It would be a good return for the 36-year-old great to get back two first-round picks in Durant, an offensive big in Collins, a backup point guard in Graham, and a starting-caliber wing in Johnson. Would the Spurs, nevertheless, seal the deal?”
We believe a better question to ask would be: Would the Suns make that trade for Kevin Durant, or any of the trades mentioned above?
Though we highly doubt it, trade speculations and rumors about Kevin Durant in the NBA are probably not going to stop.
