Joel Embiid, the top player for the Philadelphia 76ers, wed Brazilian Sports Illustrated model Anne de Paula in a lavish Hamptons ceremony.
The 29-year-old Cameroonian married the glamorous de Paula on Saturday in Southampton, New York, at a church ceremony witnessed by their friends and family.
Embiid, who won the NBA MVP award in May, and de Paula already have a two-year-old kid named Arthur. When he greeted his dad on the court during the MVP presentation, he won the hearts of NBA fans.
The stunning groom chose a white tuxedo with a bow tie to match the bride’s long-sleeved lace gown and veil.
As they left the chapel, the happy couple grinned from ear to ear and were showered with confetti by the guests.
For their first dance, De Paula and Embiid went to the dance floor, holding each other tenderly while dancing to Brian McKnight’s song Back at One.
As an appetizer, guests were treated to burrata, heirloom tomatoes, and micro greens. For their entrée, they had the option of roast filet mignon steak or branzino cooked with lemon and thyme.
After the ceremony and reception, the joyful couple danced under dozens of disco balls with their friends and family as the American-Nigerian artist performed. As attendees partied into the night, Meek Mill also gave a performance.
Embiid wept with happiness in May when his son ran onto the court to accept the Association’s top individual prize.
Embiid made a gesture toward his son and mentioned him in his statement. Before the 76ers’ Game 3 Eastern Conference Semifinals series loss to Boston, Arthur ran toward his seven-foot-tall father.
Strong applause for the endearing duo was heard, and the commotion only became louder when spectators inside the Wells Fargo Center got a closer look at the Embiids. There were also cheers of MVP throughout the South Philadelphia venue.
The 29-year-old talked about how his family “stayed together” after Embiid’s younger brother, Arthur, died in a vehicle accident in their home country of Cameroon in 2014.
The boy that Embiid named after his late sibling was wearing a t-shirt that said, “My Dad is the MVP.”
