Stephen Curry, a Golden State Warriors player for life, is probably going to retire. The more significant query is whether Golden State will keep giving Curry a competitive environment in which to contend for championships in his later years of play. By the end of the following season, he will turn 36, so it’s unclear how long he will continue to dazzle fans on the court.
Curry averaged 30.5 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 6.1 assists in the playoffs this year, including a thrilling 50-point outburst in Game 7 against the Kings to rescue the Warriors’ season. He also averaged 29.4 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 6.3 assists in the regular season.
The club was soundly defeated in the second round of the playoffs this year, and longtime colleagues Draymond Green and Klay Thompson may potentially depart at the end of the following year. They lack consistency in their lineup, especially with Jonathan Kuminga and Jordan Poole, and don’t appear to be the 2022 winners.
Golden State will need to take immediate action to restructure the competitive window around Curry because, in his opinion, the team hasn’t faced such uncertainty about its competitiveness when healthy since the early 2010s.
