Brooklyn Nets’ Kyrie Irving bought house for family of George Floyd, former NBA player Stephen Jackson says

Former NBA player Stephen Jackson claims that Brooklyn Nets guard Kyrie Irving purchased a home for George Floyd’s family.

Jackson, who was close to the late Floyd, disclosed on the podcast “The Rematch” that Irving and other celebrities had been in touch with Floyd’s family in an effort to support them.

“Kyrie Irving purchased a home for them. Their Mercedes was purchased by Lil Wayne’s manager. They received Disney stock from Barbra Streisand,” Jackson remarked.

Irving handed the family the money for the house around five or six months ago, according to sources who spoke with Marc J. Spears of The Undefeated.
In May, Floyd, a Black man, passed away in Minneapolis while under police custody following more than seven minutes of a white police officer kneeling on Floyd’s neck. Protests spread across the nation after his death.

Irving has participated in social justice initiatives outside of the court.

He pledged $1.5 million in July to support the earnings of WNBA players who declined to participate in their bubble for the 2020 season for social justice or coronavirus-related reasons.

While not playing for the Nets last week, Irving joined fellow supporters of a candidate running for district attorney in Manhattan on a Zoom call.

Due to a combination of personal issues, an NBA-mandated quarantine, and a stepping up of basketball-related activity before his return, Irving has missed seven straight games. In seven games this season, he is averaging 27.1 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 6.1 assists for Brooklyn.
