Kevin Durant, the veteran basketball star, recently found himself embroiled in a social media spat with a troll after a parody account spread false information about him.
The parody account NBA Centel shared fabricated personal details about Durant’s life, prompting a social media user to tag Durant and advise him to seek therapy based on the false information.
Durant, known for his candid responses on social media, swiftly responded to the troll, dismissing the credibility of the parody account and highlighting the lack of critical thinking among those who believed its claims. Even the parody account itself acknowledged the exchange, indicating that such interactions are common.
During a conversation on the Point Forward podcast, Iguodala revealed that Kevin Durant doesn’t lift weights.
He said, “There’s only one flaw in KD’s game and it has nothing to do with basketball. KD’s only flaw is he won’t lift weights.” In response to Iggy’s claims, KD publicly dismissed such rumors by writing, “Now I don’t lift weights, aight man….. these boys say anything on these podcasts.”
However, Durant’s eagerness to clap back at trolls has occasionally resulted in negative consequences for him.
This incident is just one example of Durant’s willingness to engage with fans and critics on social media, often shutting down trolls with quick and decisive responses. He has previously addressed misinformation spread by former teammates, demonstrating his readiness to defend himself against false claims.
However, Durant’s penchant for engaging with trolls has occasionally led to negative consequences, notably during the burner account controversy in the mid-2010s. Durant faced public scrutiny after it was revealed that he used a burner account to respond to criticism anonymously, tarnishing his reputation and leading to accusations of being thin-skinned.
Despite the controversy, Durant remains a polarizing figure in the NBA, admired for his talent on the court but criticized for his behavior off it. What are your thoughts on Durant’s approach to handling social media criticism? Share your opinions in the comments below.
