Devin Booker led the charge with 30 points, supported by Eric Gordon’s 21 off the bench, as the Phoenix Suns secured a 128-115 victory over the Atlanta Hawks on Thursday night.
The Suns’ success was fueled by their impressive long-range shooting, sinking 22 of 41 attempted 3-pointers. Booker drained six from beyond the arc, while Gordon and Royce O’Neale contributed four each. Kevin Durant tallied 19 points for the Hawks, with Grayson Allen chipping in 13.
Phoenix reached a significant milestone, climbing to 12 games above .500 for the first time this season with a record of 41-29. They’ve now won six of their last nine games, displaying the depth and talent of their roster.
Booker’s efficient performance included 10 of 15 shooting from the field, with three crucial 3-pointers late in the fourth quarter sealing the win for the Suns.
“We expect this level of performance from our group, given the talent we have across the board,” said Booker.
Despite a valiant effort from the Hawks, who saw Dejounte Murray score 29 points and De’Andre Hunter add 22, they couldn’t overcome Phoenix’s sharp shooting from beyond the arc.
The Suns’ bench came up big, contributing 47 points on 17 of 24 shooting, with Vogel describing it as “probably the best bench performance of the season.”
Though facing adversity with Booker’s foul trouble and Jusuf Nurkic’s absence due to injury, the Suns displayed resilience and determination throughout the game.
With the victory, Phoenix continues their push to avoid the play-in tournament in the competitive Western Conference. Currently tied for sixth with Dallas, they aim to secure a top-six finish to advance directly to the first round of the playoffs.
“We want to finish in the top six, but the competition is fierce,” Vogel emphasized.
Next up, the Hawks will host Charlotte on Saturday night, while the Suns will face San Antonio on the road on the same evening.
