On Thursday, LeBron James and his entire family received incredible news: Bronny James, who suffered a cardiac attack earlier this year, has been cleared for basketball exercise and might soon return to the court for the USC Trojans.
The Trojans are 5-2 this season and could use the addition of another explosive player in Bronny. It’s unknown when he’ll be available for the Trojans for the first time, but the James family is almost certainly planning ahead of time.
LeBron, in particular, appears to have already decided what he would do if the Lakers played on Bronny’s debut day, but first he expressed his excitement that Bronny is working toward a return, according to Spectrum SportsNet:
“Our family is extremely excited for Bronny. This also applies to USC. He’s been working toward this goal for the past 12 weeks. And for him to be able to do what he enjoys, like be with his teammates and put on a uniform, is really fulfilling.”
But then, LeBron revealed that due of how crucial Bronny’s collegiate debut will be, he may miss a Lakers game if necessary:
“That is his passion and joy. His family, friends, and the sport of basketball. He enjoys playing, competing, and simply having a good time. He’s been doing it for a long time and has worked hard. It will be fantastic, and I am looking forward to his first game when he is cleared and ready. I’ve already warned my teammates that if they play on the same day as we do, I’ll have to catch them the next game. I told you all on the plane. Champs, put your family first. I adore you all. But I’m absolutely going to witness Bronny’s first collegiate game when he’s cleared and ready to travel.”
It’s perfectly logical that LeBron would choose Bronny’s collegiate debut over a regular-season game. Bronny’s Trojans debut reflects not only LeBron’s hard work, but also the innumerable hours Bronny had to put in to regain full fitness.
According to the schedules, the Lakers and USC have forthcoming games on the same night on December 28 and 30, as well as January 3, 13, and 17.
James: The Lakers will not know who we are until we get healthy.
Coming off a 2-2 road trip, James believes the Lakers will need more time to figure out who they are once everyone is well.
