In order to highlight Black fashion designers during the 2024 NBA season, Stephen Curry has partnered with Rakuten.
Curry, 35, will hold talks with designers who are represented by the Black In Fashion Council as a result of the alliance. In order to promote their businesses and destinations, he would also dress in their ensembles during tunnel treks. Curry is working with a number of labels, including Advisry, Des Pierrot, Head of State, Pierre Blanc, and Savant Studios.
The Golden State Warriors point guard told PEOPLE that he is eager to use his position to promote the work that these designers are producing in the fashion industry.
Curry exclusively tells PEOPLE, “It’s an awesome way to create representation in a field that needs it.” “While I’m not a fashion designer or billionaire, I am aware that there are innovative methods to highlight some truly remarkable talent. I can’t wait for the world to witness these designers on a larger platform.”
“I’ve met most of the designers for the first time. I listened to their tales of how they entered the field and what motivates them and their brands. When I personally met Paul Richards, Keith Herron, and Des Pierre, I could see how excited they were about working on this project together,” Curry says.
He continues: “You’ll be able to see me wear their looks on the tunnel walks and then you’ll be able to shop their looks through Rakuten’s services.”On October 24, during the tunnel walk before the Warriors’ opening-night game against the Phoenix Suns, Curry will debut the partnership’s initial design, created by Pierre Blanc.
Customers can purchase things from each of the designers’ current collections as well as components from the look on Rakuten.com starting on October 25. Each month, as Curry’s looks are revealed, new pieces will be added.
“With the platform I have I also have the blessings to extend reach across the world…and find creative ways to elevate people who need support and deserve support, resources and attention,” Curry asserts. In three words, the four-time NBA champion says he would characterize his game-day attire as “comfortable, casual, and versatile.”
