Kevin Durant’s perspective on the Phoenix Suns differs from the common narrative surrounding the team’s challenges.
Despite concerns about the health of their star players and the tough remaining schedule, Durant expresses confidence in the team’s potential.
Durant acknowledges the adjustments needed to integrate new teammates like Bradley Beal and Devin Booker but remains optimistic about their growth together. He emphasizes the importance of team-wide development, not just relying on the star trio.
“I trust this team. Playing with Beal and Booker is new, but I’ve seen it all in this league. I just want to see how we are able to grow. “Not just the three of us, but the entire team,”
On a personal level, Durant continues to excel offensively and takes pride in his defensive contributions within Frank Vogel’s system. However, he acknowledges the toll this can take on his game, particularly against defenses geared to stop him.
“I know that there will always be people who question what I do. But if you’re not someone who sees me work, I’m not going to take your opinion into account,” Durant emphasizes
Durant remains focused on his love for the game of basketball and disregards outside opinions unless they come from those who witness his dedication and effort firsthand. He downplays the obsession with winning championships, instead emphasizing the Suns’ progress and potential under the coaching staff’s guidance.
“We are building something with form and identity. And that takes time. The technical staff is doing a great job. Obviously I can’t guarantee anything, but I see us with options against any team.”
In Durant’s view, the Suns are building something meaningful and have the capability to compete with any team in the league. While he can’t guarantee success, he believes in the team’s chances and the foundation they are establishing.
