In a game that took place on Thursday night, the Dallas Mavericks prevailed against the Miami Heat by a score of 114-108. Luka Doncic, who had 35 points, 11 rebounds, and 11 assists, became the second NBA player to achieve five consecutive 30-point triple-doubles thanks to his performance.
During the 2017 season, Doncic achieved the same feat as Russell Westbrook, who had five consecutive triple-doubles of 30 points each for Oklahoma City. In addition to becoming the first player in the history of the sport to achieve four consecutive triple-doubles of 35 points, the All-Star player also leads the league in scoring.
Over the course of forty minutes, Doncic made 12 of 24 shots overall and 7 of 13 three-point shots.
A three-game losing streak was broken by Dallas, who was led by Kyrie Irving, who scored 23 points. Before the Mavericks went on a 10-4 run that included three-pointers from Doncic, Dante Exum, and Irving, they were trailing 101-100 when the surge began.
In his biggest scoring game since being acquired from Charlotte in late January, Terry Rozier had 27 points and 11 assists for Miami. This was his highest scoring game since the trade. Both Jimmy Butler and Duncan Robinson finished with 14 points each. Robinson scored 19 points, including 14 in the first half.
After coming into the game with an average of 12.4 points per game, the Heat shot 17 of 38 from beyond the arc, including 10 free throws in the first half. Rozier and Robinson each had a five-of-eight behind the arc percentage.
In the beginning, Miami had won seven of eight games.
In the opening six minutes of the game, the Heat established a 29-14 lead by making 12 of their first 14 field goal attempts, including the first six shots from beyond the 3 point line. Despite the fact that Butler only contributed six points on two of four shots from the field, the Mavericks were able to knot the score at 50-all with 3 minutes and 45 seconds remaining in the first half. That was before Miami scored eight of the final dozen points of the second quarter, putting them ahead 58-54 at the break.
The streak of consecutive games in which Butler had at least one steal and one three-pointer reached 15, making it the longest stretch of his career and tying the mark for the franchise that was set by Rafer Alston in 2004 before Butler’s streak.
The Dallas Cowboys made two adjustments to their starting lineup, with Derrick Jones Jr. and Daniel Gafford taking the place of Josh Green and Dereck Lively II, who respectively were rookies.
