LeBron James spoke out on Monday afternoon about the constant mock drafts predicting where his son, Bronny James, a freshman at USC, would be taken in the future NBA Draft.
The tweet that sparked the older James’ ire came on X from basketball news aggregate “NBACentral” concerning a rumor that Bronny had been withdrawn from ESPN’s 2024 NBA mock draft and was now expected to be selected in 2025.
“Can yall please just let the kid be a kid and enjoy college basketball,” the Lakers player wrote. “Regardless of what he does, the effort and results will eventually speak for themselves. If you don’t know, he doesn’t care what a mock draft says; he just WORKS! “Earned Not Given!”James didn’t stop there; he continued to criticize mock drafts and their relevance.
“And to all the other kids out there striving to be great just keep your head down, blinders on and keep grinding,” he went on to say. “These mock drafts don’t matter one bit! I promise you! ONLY THE WORK MATTERS!! “Let’s talk real basketball, people!”ESPN NBA Draft expert Jonathan Givony reacted to On3 on social media, implying that Bronny had been removed from the 2024 mock draft in order to rectify the record.
“I know that accuracy isn’t a big thing for you guys, but he hasn’t been on the 2024 mock draft since his heart issue in July,” Givony said on his Twitter account.
On3 has amended their report and social media posts, however NBACentral’s piece remains on X.
According to The World Wide Leader in Sports, Bronny is anticipated to be the 39th choice in 2025.
Bronny has gotten a lot of attention as the oldest kid of LeBron James and a highly anticipated prospect coming out of high school. He is in his first season at USC and made international news after having a heart collapse while working at the Galen Center on July 24th.
Bronny has averaged 5.5 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 2.5 assists since returning to the court after a health scare. James has already declared his desire to play alongside his son in the NBA before retiring from the game, which has contributed to the curiosity around Bronny’s collegiate career and predictions about when he will be taken in the NBA Draft.
