LeBron James free agency: Ranking every team’s chances of landing the King as Lakers try to fend off suitors

LeBron James and his entourage have made every effort to quell the speculation that he would sign with a different club soon. During his Sunday media appearance, he expressed his happiness as a Laker and expressed the hope that his luck would hold. Wealthy Paul praised the Lakers’ relationship with Jeanie Buss after asserting that James is “committed to the Lakers”. James would much rather retire as a Laker, by all accounts. All indications point to the Lakers trying to bolster the team aggressively this winter.

However, the rumors just won’t go away. There are many explanations for this. The following three statements are true, at the very least:

James has expressed his want to compete in the NBA with his son Bronny. That’s an issue for later, if Bronny stays in school. The Lakers could not have a choice in the first round if he declares for the 2024 NBA Draft. In that regard, the Pelicans have the power to decide whether to accept the Lakers’ 2024 selection or postpone that duty until 2025. The Lakers’ lone second-round selection, which presently stands at No. 57, came from the Clippers initially. That’s fifty-six opportunities for a club other than the Lakers to choose Bronny in the draft with the hope of attracting his father.

It is claimed that the Lakers, who have three first-round selections at their disposal, want to go star-shopping. In a league where the Nets, Knicks, Jazz, Spurs, and Thunder all have eight to twelve first-round selections up for grabs, it seems like more ammunition than it really is. Finding the ideal player is just half the battle won by the Lakers; the other half is maintaining the belief that those other clubs aren’t interested.

James’s contract is set for the next campaign. He hasn’t said out loud that he will use it. The last time someone questioned him directly whether he knew if he would do so, his response was a simple “no.”

At this moment, it seems like James will stay in Los Angeles for at least another season. However, the noise around these speculations has increased significantly, and if nothing else, teams are supposedly beginning to think that he is still attainable, even if that isn’t the case.
