The Toronto Raptors have been keeping a close eye on one of the most fascinating talents in college basketball from the national level.

According to what Shams Charania stated on the Pat McAfee show, the club is rumored to be one of the several teams who have scouted Bronny James prior to the 2024 NBA Draft. There have been “plenty of teams” who have looked into James, who has the potential to declare for the draft this year. Other teams that have looked into him include the Los Angeles Lakers and the Miami Heat.

At the moment, the 6-foot-4 James is a freshman at the University of Southern California. He is the oldest son of LeBron James. However, the 19-year-old experienced a cardiac attack in July as a result of a congenital heart abnormality. Since then, he has only participated in 17 games this year, averaging 5.9 points per game. At one point, he was thought to be one of the top talents in the draft.

In the past, LeBron James has expressed his desire to play alongside his son at some point in the future, which may serve as an additional incentive for a team to select his son at an earlier stage in the selection. The fact that Bronny James, who is not now regarded as a top prospect, should join the draft this year is a further addition to the mystery that surrounds him.Assuming that LeBron James decides to opt out of his contract with the Los Angeles Lakers, it is quite doubtful that Toronto will have much, if any, financial flexibility this summer to truly pursue him.

If the Raptors were to sign Kelly Olynyk to an extension while simultaneously relinquishing the rights to Gary Trent Jr. and Bruce Brown Jr., they could potentially generate more than thirty million dollars in annual revenue. There is a possibility that extra space might be made available by a cost-saving deal involving Chris Boucher or Jalen McDaniels; but, it is difficult to imagine Toronto clearing up maximum contract money this summer.

The Raptors will have at least two picks in this year’s draft, and they may be able to keep their own pick if it is selected in the top six of the draft.
