The Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Charlotte Hornets by a score of 124-118 on Monday night, securing their third consecutive victory. D’Angelo Russell scored 28 points, Anthony Davis had 26 points, 15 rebounds, and 11 assists for his third career triple-double, and the Lakers were able to hold on for the victory.
In order to establish some much-needed momentum before the approaching All-Star break, the Lakers (27-25) ended their road trip with a record of 4-2 and LeBron James contributed 26 points to their offensive performance.
Miles Bridges scored a career-best 41 points, while rookie Brandon Miller scored 33 points with five three-pointers for the Hornets, who have now lost eight consecutive games since moving Terry Rozier to Miami. Bridges’s performance was a career high.
During the first half, the Lakers shot 64% from the field and created a 74-58 advantage going into the locker room. This was mostly due to the fact that Russell scored 22 points and James scored 17 points.
During the first half of the game, James had numerous moments that would be worthy of a highlight reel, including driving past P.J. Washington and dunking over Nick Richards, who is seven feet tall and plays center. There was another baseline drive by James that resulted in a high-flying two-handed jam. Additionally, James assisted Anthony Davis with a dunk that was an alley-oop.
There were 36 assists for the Lakers.
Towards the end of the third quarter, Christian Wood made a three-point shot and then dunked off a pass from Austin Reaves, which allowed Los Angeles to increase their lead to 21 points. The Hornets, on the other hand, would end up leaving themselves a game behind Miller, who finished the fourth quarter with 16 points. When there were approximately two minutes left in the game, the player who was selected second overall in the draft intercepted a pass from Reaves and went the length of the court for a dunk. He then added back-to-back three-pointers to cut the Lakers’ lead to four points.
Charlotte had an opportunity to make it a one-possession game, but Davis blocked Bridges’ step-back three-point effort, and Reaves scored two free throws to extend the margin to six points and ensure the victory.
Bridges finished with five three-pointers and played 16 of 26 from the field.
