Status of stars uncertain as Lakers cap back-to-back at Atlanta

A team that has been experiencing a lot of difficulties recently when it comes to stopping the opposition is the Los Angeles Lakers, and the Atlanta Hawks will be trying to get their high-powered offense back into gear on Tuesday when they play the Lakers, who are traveling to Atlanta.

The Hawks have scored an average of 120.2 points per game, which places them in a tie for fourth place in the NBA. The Los Angeles Lakers are currently ranked 19th in the league in terms of defense, allowing 117.2 points per game. However, over the course of the last four games, they have allowed an average of 134.5 points.

On Sunday, Atlanta defeated the visiting Toronto Raptors by a score of 126-125, putting a stop to a consecutive losing record of four games. The Hawks had four players who had double-doubles during the game, which was the fifth time this season that they had accomplished this accomplishment. This is the most such games by any NBA team since the 1978-1979 Detroit Pistons had five, and it is the most by a Hawks club since it occurred six times in 1968-1969.

“I thought we were connected (Sunday),” remarked Quin Snyder, the coach of the Hawks. While it is not going to happen every night, that does not mean that we cannot make an effort to achieve it for a period of forty-eight minutes. We want to be able to exercise that kind of tenacity and perseverance in situations where things do not go the way we want them to.

In the victory, Trae Young of Atlanta recorded 30 points and 12 assists, marking the 75th occasion in his career that he has generated 30 points or more and 10 or more assists from the same position. To accomplish the milestone, he became the second-youngest player and the second-fastest player in terms of the number of games played, with Oscar Robertson being the only person to surpass him. With one more 30-point and 10-assist performance, Young, who is 25 years old, is on the verge of tying Nate Archibald for the fifth-most 30-point and 10-assist games in NBA history.

Clint Capela, the center for the Hawks, has quietly racked up 20 double-doubles, including a performance against the Raptors in which he scored 19 points and grabbed 14 rebounds. Capela has played in 91 games since the 2015-16 season, and during that time, he has scored 15 points or more, grabbed 10 or more rebounds, and shot 65 percent. This is the third most in the NBA during that time period. The only players who have played more games than him are Rudy Gobert of the Minnesota Timberwolves (170) and Nikola Jokic of the Denver Nuggets (97).

It is Atlanta’s hope that guard Dejounte Murray will be able to return for the game on Tuesday. The right hamstring discomfort that Murray was experiencing on Sunday caused him to miss all 45 games that he had started. Murray is currently averaging a career-high 21.4 points per game.

The Lakers will be playing the second night of a back-to-back match after suffering a defeat to the Houston Rockets, who are the hosts, by a score of 135-119 on Monday. An altercation between Jarred Vanderbilt and Dillon Brooks of Houston resulted in the latter being dismissed from the game early in the second quarter. At that time, Los Angeles was down by as much as thirty points.

“They got all the hustle plays, a lot of 50-50 plays,” said D’Angelo Russell, who scored 23 points for the Lakers in the game that they lost. “They were able to get away with some easy ones because there was a lot of miscommunication that occurred. That’s all that’s required for a squad to get some momentum going.

Despite having a problem with his left ankle, LeBron James was able to play on Monday, while Anthony Davis was able to participate in the game despite having two Achilles tendons that were in pain. Each of James and Davis scored 23 points in the game.

A hip and groin injury was also received by Davis during the game in Houston, and he stated that his status would be determined by the game time on Tuesday.

“I just couldn’t move how I usually move on both ends of the floor,” according to Davis.

The most recent game that James skipped was on Tuesday. In two of the team’s most recent three back-to-back games, he has not participated in the second team’s game.

This will be the third game of the six-game homestand that Atlanta is conducting, as well as the third game of the six-game road trip that the Lakers are on. The previous two games were divided between both teams.

A rematch between the Hawks and the Lakers is scheduled to take place in Los Angeles on March 18, 2019. This will be the first of two meetings between the two teams this season. In the previous season, the Lakers won both of their games.
