LeBron James has been named an All-Star starter for the 20th time, making him the first player in NBA history to achieve this milestone. The NBA unveiled the results of the starter balloting, and James will represent the Western Conference in the All-Star Game scheduled for February 18 in Indianapolis.
The Western Conference starting lineup includes Kevin Durant (Phoenix Suns), Nikola Jokic (Denver Nuggets), Luka Doncic (Dallas Mavericks), Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (Oklahoma City Thunder), and LeBron James. James’ 20 All-Star selections surpass the previous record held by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, who was a 19-time All-Star.
In the Eastern Conference, the starting lineup consists of Giannis Antetokounmpo (Milwaukee Bucks), Jayson Tatum (Boston Celtics), Joel Embiid (Philadelphia 76ers), Tyrese Haliburton (Indiana Pacers), and Damian Lillard (Milwaukee Bucks).
Notable players who were not selected as starters include Stephen Curry (Golden State Warriors), Jaylen Brown (Boston Celtics), Trae Young (Atlanta Hawks), Anthony Davis (Los Angeles Lakers), Devin Booker (Phoenix Suns), and Kawhi Leonard (Los Angeles Clippers).
The All-Star starters are chosen through a combination of fan voting (50%), player voting (25%), and media voting (25%). The reserves, to be announced on February 1, are selected by the league’s head coaches.
This year’s All-Star Game will return to the traditional East-vs.-West format, abandoning the draft format that was used in recent years. The game will take place in Indianapolis on February 18, 2024.
