Tristan Thompson has taken on the role of Amari’s primary caregiver following the passing of their mother Andrea in January. He is currently attempting to become Amari’s legal guardian.

Legal proceedings were initiated on Friday by the NBA free agent and former partner of Khloé Kardashian, who was seeking sole legal guardianship of his younger brother or sister, who is 17 years old.

According to court documents that were obtained by PEOPLE, Tristan Thompson, who is 32 years old, asserts that he is the only living relative of his younger brother Trevor who is able to provide him with the necessary care. This is due to the fact that Trevor has been absent from the family’s life consistently since 2014.

There are a number of medical conditions that Amari experiences, including epilepsy, and Thompson wants to obtain guardianship so that he may provide care for her around the clock.

“Amari is a minor and suffers from medical conditions that render him unable to care for himself or seek gainful employment,” the documents that were submitted to the court state regarding the situation.

Amari has reportedly been dwelling at the residence of Tristan, which is located in Hidden Hills, California, as stated by the documents.

The statement continues by explaining that it would be in Amari’s best interest to have a guardian appointed so that someone would be responsible for satisfying his fundamental necessities. This would serve to ensure that Amari’s needs are met. In addition, Amari will be the recipient of a little inheritance from his mother, Mary, who passed away not too long ago. However, a guardian would not be able to assist Amari in managing and investing Mary’s fortune on his behalf.

According to the documents filed in court, Amari has apparently received a sum of $103,475 from the inheritance that his mother received. It was determined that Tristan would be the one to take on the job of protecting the inheritance and managing Amari’s medical appointments and care. As stated in the documents submitted to the court, Tristan also intends to submit a petition for Amari to be granted citizenship in the United States. Amari was born in the country of Canada.

The heart attack that took place at Andrea’s residence in Toronto on January 5 resulted in her passing. Andrea was the mother of Tristan and Amari. It was TMZ Sports that was the first news organization to report on the story.
