During the first half of Thursday’s NBA in-season tournament semifinals showdown against the Pelicans, LeBron James was dominant.
The Lakers’ star was on fire from the field, converting on back-to-back-to-back threes in a spectacular stretch.
New Orleans gave James room to pull up from beyond the arc, which he did with ease. On the next possession, he took a heat check three, which was likewise buried. Finally, the 38-year-old put up a shot near the logo and knocked it down as well.
Christian Wood and other Los Angeles teammates were stunned following James’ third consecutive three-pointer, and they couldn’t contain their delight as the four-time MVP went to work on the Pelicans’ sloppy defense.
After draining the last of his three threes, James could be seen pointing to his arm, suggesting that he has ice in his veins. From the bench, Anthony Davis could be seen returning the gesture.
The sequence from James at the opening of the second quarter resulted in a six-point swing, which the Lakers capitalized on to take a 13-point advantage into halftime.
With an in-season tournament championship berth on the line, James ignited at the ideal time for Los Angeles, and his teammates relished every minute of it.
